Kids today are navigating a different world than the one most educators grew up in. They are more connected to technology, often less relationally connected in person, exposed to increasing levels of stress, and may have fewer opportunities for the unstructured play and experiences that help build the developing brain.
Kids These Days is an interactive 5-session virtual series designed to help educators and others who work with children better understand what has changed for kids, how those changes show up in behavior and learning, and what adults can do to support regulation, connection, and healthy development.
The series begins by exploring the environmental and developmental shifts affecting today's children and then moves into brain development, nervous system regulation, co-regulation, relationships, and repair. Participants will also examine an essential piece of supporting students: understanding and managing our own regulation first.
Throughout the series, participants will learn and practice concrete strategies, language, and sequences they can use with students who are escalated, shut down, overwhelmed, or dysregulated. The goal is not simply to "calm a kid down," but to better understand what behavior is communicating and how safe, regulated adults can help students build their own capacity for regulation.

This series is appropriate for classroom teachers, special education teachers, paraprofessionals, counselors and school mental health professionals, school psychologists, social workers, behavior specialists, interventionists, related service providers, administrators, and other professionals who support students.
About the Facilitator
Stacy G. Nation, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Behavioral Health Officer with the Wyoming Army National Guard, and owner of Go Be You, LLC, a trauma-informed practice and training organization.
Her clinical background includes complex developmental trauma, adoption and foster care, and neurodiversity, using approaches that include EMDR, Brainspotting, somatic work, and co-regulation-based practice.
Stacy is the author of What Really Happens in Therapy and regularly provides professional development to schools and districts focused on trauma-sensitive systems, brain-based classroom practices, student regulation, and staff regulation.
Through Kids These Days, Stacy brings the science of brain development and regulation into practical, real-world strategies educators can understand, practice, and use with students.

- Better understand brain development and what children need to be ready for learning.
- Define regulation, safety, and co-regulation and understand how they are connected.
- Recognize and manage their own regulation when responding to challenging situations.
- Distinguish co-regulation from compliance or simply "calming a kid down."
- Apply practical co-regulation strategies to real classroom and school scenarios.
- Use specific de-escalation, relationship, and repair language during and after stressful situations.

Explore the domains of development, how they influence education, and what children need developmentally to be ready for learning. - November 2, 2026 – Managing Myself: Understanding Regulation
Explore how we learn emotional regulation, what regulation really means, and the sequence of regulation. - November 9, 2026 – Co-Regulation: Tools and Practice
Define co-regulation, learn the co-regulation sequence, and practice applying it in educational settings. - November 16, 2026 – Relationships and Repair
Explore the importance of relationships and practice repair language using real-world scenarios
