At any given time, the OPI website regularly features over 30 school counseling vacancies. A significant number of these openings are situated in small, rural communities with limited resources, posing challenges in recruiting and retaining qualified personnel. Our practicing School Counselor, appreciates the pivotal role these positions play in supporting students across various facets of their lives. By providing an array of contracted services to schools throughout Montana, we can help to ensure schools deliver high-quality, legally compliant, and evidence-based support to students across the following domains: academics, college & career, and social emotional.
We can offer specialized services to assist schools in establishing and sustaining comprehensive school counseling programs spanning grades preK-12. Through targeted professional development and coaching, I will assist schools in providing the necessary support for student success. These services are accessible to all schools throughout the state, irrespective of their location or available resources.
School Counseling Program Evaluation
Conduct comprehensive evaluations of school counseling programs
Identify strengths and areas for improvement
Provide recommendations for enhancing services and outcomes
Social Emotional Learning & Development
Assess specific SEL needs and make recommendations for MTSS programming
Provide support and coaching in the implementation of the Character Strong Curriculum
Deliver targeted individual counseling on a limited basis to students in grades preK-12 to address crisis, academic performance, self-esteem, family concerns, classroom behavior and social skills
Administer student screeners to assess needs and determine appropriate small group interventions aimed at addressing SEL challenges
Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness (Middle School & High School)
Conduct training and provide ongoing support in Teen Mental Health First Aide for staff and students
Assist in the implementation of suicide prevention programs to promote mental health awareness and safety
Develop a comprehensive plan for wellness activities aimed at fostering positive mental health
outcomes
Academic Support/College & Career Readiness
Evaluate high school credits and recommend coursework aligned with students' college and career goals
Aid students in navigating college admissions and scholarship application processes
Offer guidance and resources for ACT preparation
Coordinate and administer ACT exams
WIDA and SBAC testing coordinator and/or proctor
Leadership Programs
Support the implementation and maintenance of leadership programs at the High School and Middle School levels
Link Leaders (HS) & WEB Leaders (MS)
Trading Card Kids
Mentoring (HS students mentoring elementary students)
Homeless Student Support
Identify and utilize resources available through the McKinney-Vento Act
Provide guidance on the utilization of state-provided homeless funds
504 Development and Review
Assist in creating, reviewing, and revising legally compliant 504’s
Ensure 504’s are tailored to meet individual student needs
Provide guidance on setting appropriate accommodations
Professional Development and Coaching
Develop and administer online training for educators
Offer coaching and constructive feedback to support program efficiency
Help teachers implement effective instructional strategies that support a student’s emotional and academic goals
Costs:
$120/hour plus expenses for all services.
