Join us for Understanding and Responding to Trauma in Educational Environments, a three-part webinar series designed for PK–12 educators, student services staff, and community partners. The series has been developed in collaboration and partnership with MTPLC/MSSA, the National Native Children’s Trauma Center, and the Montana Healthcare Foundation. The webinar series is generously funded by the Montana Healthcare Foundation.

About the series
The focus of NNCTC is increasing providers’ ability to respond to the trauma-related needs of children and youth—with a primary focus on supporting American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) children and youth. NNCTC provides training in evidence-based and promising practices and technical assistance in trauma-informed systems change across child-serving systems and communities.
Workshop Details & Objectives
Workshop: Understanding the Impacts of Trauma in the Classroom (Jan 23)
Description: Foundational training on trauma as it relates to students, including trauma types, resiliency factors, brain science, developmental/behavioral effects, and the interconnected nature of historical and current traumas. Increases awareness of trauma among students and helps staff recognize trauma responses. Sets the stage for Trauma Resilient Approaches and Practices in Education (Workshop 2).

Workshop: Trauma Resilient Approaches and Practices in Education (Feb 6)
Description: A menu of trauma-informed approaches and practices schools can implement to better support students impacted by trauma and promote resiliency. Includes environmental and interpersonal prevention strategies, supportive response strategies, and systems-level strategies to support staff implementation.
Objectives:
Workshop: Empathy-Based Stress and Self-Care for Educators (Mar 6)
Description: Focus on increasing knowledge of empathy-based stress—the range of responses to helping youth who have experienced trauma. Uses self-assessment tools to help educators understand personal responses and build a self-care plan to mitigate effects.

- Identify common reactions and developmental impacts of childhood trauma
- Understand how these impacts may affect classroom behavior and learning readiness

Description: A menu of trauma-informed approaches and practices schools can implement to better support students impacted by trauma and promote resiliency. Includes environmental and interpersonal prevention strategies, supportive response strategies, and systems-level strategies to support staff implementation.

- Identify several key trauma-informed prevention practices
- Identify trauma-informed response strategies
- Increase understanding of systems-level strategies to support implementation
