Participation By Design (In-Person) w/ Katie Anderson
August 01, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. In this interactive and entertaining training, K-12 educators will learn how to increase student participation in class discussions, Q&A, turn-and-talk, and partner work. A dozen techniques for designing better individual and partner structures will be presented, practiced, and modeled. Take away specific, concrete strategies for putting reluctant learners firmly, but gently, on the hook for participating in the learning. |
Developing a Title I Desk Manual with Jack O'Connor
Missoula, MT at DeSmet Public School (In-Person Only) August 1, 2025 This workshop is focused upon developing a high-quality Title I program, which is a daunting task. Administrators and teachers need to be able to navigate the complex world of federal and state laws while meeting student needs. Districts must also be able to complete required Title I monitoring that occurs. This session will give an overview of Title I law, help districts review their existing Title I plans, and help districts in developing a desk manual for its Title I program in the future. |
Place-Based Making: IEFA and the Visual Arts Foundations, Function, Form, & Contemporary Art
August 7, 2025 in Big Timber, MT This workshop covers select tribal nations both within and outside of Montana, and their contemporary and historic relationship to place based materials, functionality, and aesthetics in visual art. The day will begin in the classroom, where participants will study the concept of aesthetics and aesthetic judgement from a cultural and place-based perspective, along with curriculum development. Then, the group will also participate in an immersive place-based art experience. The final portion of the day will take place back in the classroom, where participants will finish the day making art with Mr. Hoon. Secondary teachers and elementary teachers with or without an art background are welcome to join this dynamic workshop. Participants will have the choice to design IEFA lessons relevant to their classroom or make visual art. |

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize and respond to the warning signs of a suicide crisis using the steps of Question, Persuade and Refer. You will come away empowered with practical tips for communicating openly about suicide and increased comfort discussing mental health. Objectives:

Hybrid: Grief in Schools: Fostering Compassion Resilience
October 16, 2025 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Children face additional challenges integrating losses into their lives related to developmental influences and a limited repertoire of coping tools. School personnel are uniquely poised to provide support. We will explore different grief styles, identify the differences between kids and adult grief, and ideas for interacting with students about loss - ultimately shoring up participants to more effectively address grief, loss, and trauma in schools. |
